2022 JEEP GLADIATOR RUBICON STYLING & INTERIOR FEATURES

The Gladiator’s interior, unlike Jeeps of the past, feels roomy and spacious, thanks to the Gladiator’s large size and the fact that you can remove the roof panels to make it airier. There’s also a good mix of materials throughout the cabin – the dashboard is a mix between a soft rubber-like material and a hard plastic that we like. Everything in the cabin feels solid like it was built to last. The door panels are made of hard plastic and leather, and the doors are also removable if you want them to be. The quality of the Gladiator’s leather is quite good: soft but durable.
One thing we like about the Gladiator is the removable roof panels. It makes it look like an adventure vehicle because it’s so versatile. You can remove the two front panels, and the Gladiator turns into a T-top, or get out the tools and remove the entire rear end, turning into a convertible.
The 8.4-inch touchscreen in the middle of the 2022 Jeep Gladiators dashboard uses Jeep’s excellent UConnect infotainment system. It may be a little dated, but it’s still perfect. Shortcuts at the bottom of the screen are very helpful when navigating the menus, the Garmin-based navigation system is easy to use, and the off-road menu is very useful. The nine-speaker Alpine sound system in the Gladiator also does well with excellent bass and reasonable clarity.
The rear seats are pretty comfortable, with plenty of legroom and headroom. Rear amenities are excellent as there are pockets in the rear doors, air vents, two cup holders, handles for easy entry and exit, and storage bins under the rear seats. There’s also a detachable Bluetooth speaker behind the rear seat that comes with the Lifestyle Adventure Group.
Opening the back door (which opens softly to avoid slamming shut) reveals a bath lined with a bed with a clever system of pegs to tie things down. Our test car also had a cargo cover. The pallet measures 1531 mm in length and 1137 mm in width between the wheel arches and has a payload of 693 kg. The Navara Pro-4x Warrior has a payload of 952 kg, which is significantly more than the Jeep.

2022 JEEP GLADIATOR RUBICON SPECS

The only engine running in the 2022 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon lineup is the familiar 3.6-liter Pentastar gasoline V6 that has powered Chrysler and Jeep products for years. The engine produces 209kW at a high 6400 rpm and 347 Nm of torque at 4100 rpm. The Gladiator is only available as a double cab 4×4 model. In Australia, it’s only available as a petrol V6 – the 200kW diesel V6 offered in North America is unfortunately not fitted to right-hand drive.
A nice linear powerband makes the Gladiator a pleasure to drive, and even a nice engine note comes through under acceleration. The standard version of the transmission is an eight-speed automatic with a hydro transformer. It shifts very quietly, and you hardly feel the shifts while driving. Kickdown kicks in quickly when power is needed, and unlike other transmissions with more than six gears, you never feel like it’s hunting for the right gear. A gladiator is even depicted on the gear lever itself.
